Graham "Polly "Farmer
was chosen by the Geelong Football Club as its player to be included on the
inside of the Geelong Stamp Booklet.He was a ruckman who played 101 games for
Geelong, kicking 65 goals between 1962 and 1967. He was Geelong's captain from
1965 to 1967 and was a member of the 1963 premiership team. He won their best
and fairest on two occasions.
"Polly" played most of his football in Western Australia, winning the
Sandover Medal for the WAFL's best and fairest in 1956 and 1960, and only
crossed to the VFL when he was already 27 years of age. His unique style of
football changed the character of the game. His accurate and skilled use of
pinpoint handballs and his rucking ability was largely responsible for Geelong's
success in the 1960's.
Polly Farmer was named First Ruck in the Team of the Century named during the
Centenary Season.
